As 2017 begins I am very excited to be taking up the position of Principal at John Hartley School for the next 5 years.

John Hartley is a school with a strong community feel and a relentless focus on learning for all. We are a birth to Year 7 school with a number of exceptional programs supporting children and their families.

Our school and community value excellence, learning collaboration, curiosity and problem solving. Our children learn and grow in a nurturing, caring environment that values diversity and is helping forge pathways for the future.

Our Children’s Centre is a unique Early Childhood facility which provides strong beginnings for the education and care of our youngest students as well as families, babies and young pre-schoolers within our community. It is housed in a purpose built, building within the school grounds and contains a regular DECD preschool program, occasional care and a comprehensive range of programs and groups for families. Our staff are specifically trained in community development and early childhood care and learning. Visiting specialists such as speech pathology, occupational therapy and general practitioners utilise rooms within the Children’s Centre and are an integral part of its operation.

Our classroom learning spaces are grouped in specific buildings with bright, modern classrooms and roomy shared spaces to engage learners in a range of learning activities and programs.  Our teachers work together to plan and design appropriate and quality learning experiences. Our support staff work with children across the school to focus on specific learning goals particularly in literacy and numeracy. All of our staff work in partnership with parents and families to achieve the best possible outcomes for all of our children.

Specialist programs – science, PE, the arts, including choir for our senior students as well as a strong focus on Information Communication Technology across the school enhance the learning that happens at John Hartley School. We also provide many opportunities for students to develop and use leadership skills and character strengths including kindness and honesty.

The grounds of John Hartley School are exceptional with well-maintained garden areas and play spaces including 2 playgrounds, a sand pit area and 2 ovals. Our library, gym and canteen are of the highest quality.

Welcome to John Hartley Birth to Year 7 School community!
